Flipping Into Science at New Heights Middle School!

Who knew flipping a water bottle could teach students so much about SCIENCE?!
At New Heights Middle School, our students are discovering that science is all around us—even in something as simple (and fun!) as a water bottle flip!
Through this hands-on learning experience, students are exploring important scientific concepts, including:
- Forces & Motion: Understanding how applying force creates movement and rotation.
- Gravity: Observing how gravity pulls the bottle toward the ground.
- Inertia: Discovering why the bottle continues moving after leaving their hands.
- Newton's Laws of Motion: Investigating how different forces affect the bottle's movement.
- Rotational Motion: Exploring how and why the bottle spins through the air.
- Mass & Distribution of Mass: Experimenting with different water levels to see how they impact the bottle's movement and landing.
- Scientific Investigation: Developing hypotheses, conducting multiple trials, collecting data, and analyzing results.
- Engineering Design: Making adjustments, testing new techniques, and using what they learn to improve their success rates!
The best part? Students are learning that science isn't just about reading textbooks or memorizing facts. It's about asking questions, experimenting, problem-solving, and learning from both successes and failures!
We love seeing our Hawks engaged in meaningful, hands-on learning that brings science concepts to life!
Every Hawk. Every Day.
